Essex has once again been recognised as a global leader in environmental action, receiving an ‘A’ rating from CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) for the third consecutive year.
This accolade places Essex County Council among just 114 cities, states, and regions worldwide to achieve the highest score for climate transparency and leadership in 2024.
CDP is the international benchmark for climate action, assessing thousands of organisations annually. Essex remains the only county council in the UK to achieve the ‘A’ distinction, with just 25 UK local authorities making the list this year.
The rating reflects efforts to protect and enhance the Essex environment, including initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and improve resilience to climate risks such as flooding and water scarcity. Achieving an 'A' rating is also a key performance indicator for the Council.
This recognition exemplifies Essex’s commitment to a low-carbon future and highlights its role as a national and global leader in environmental responsibility.
