This year marks an incredible milestone for John’s Blinds & Curtains—50 years in business! From our beginnings in Romford Market in 1975 to becoming a trusted name in window shading solutions, our journey has been shaped by dedication, craftsmanship, and the unwavering support of our customers.

A Legacy That Began in 1975
Our story started with John Margrain, who had a vision to provide quality blinds and curtains with a personal touch. "My father was passionate about offering customers exactly what they needed, not just selling a product but finding the perfect solution for their home," says Sue Baisden, Managing Director and daughter of John Margrain. "It’s that customer-first approach that has carried us through five decades."

What started as a small market stall has grown into a thriving business offering made-to-measure blinds, elegant curtains, and high-performance shutters, with many products manufactured at our Wickford HQ.

Commitment to Quality & Craftsmanship
"One of the things my father instilled in me was the importance of quality," Sue reflects. "We never wanted to offer anything less than the best, which is why we have always focused on bespoke, high-quality products tailored to each customer."

Unlike mass-produced alternatives, our custom blinds and curtains are carefully crafted to fit each space perfectly. We also pride ourselves on expert guidance, ensuring that every customer receives the right solution for their home or business.

Expanding to Support Homes & Businesses
Over the years, John’s Blinds & Curtains has expanded beyond residential window dressings. Through JBC Shadings, we now provide tailored solutions for offices, schools, and commercial spaces. "It’s amazing to see how our expertise has grown," Sue notes. "We’ve gone from serving families in their homes to working with businesses and large commercial projects, all while maintaining our core values."

Looking to the Future
As we celebrate this milestone, we remain excited for what lies ahead. "The industry has changed so much over the years, and we’ve evolved with it," says Sue. "From energy-efficient blinds to smart, motorised solutions, we’re always looking for ways to innovate while staying true to what makes us special."
